What each one actually is.
Morning Breath
Forty-five minutes of nasal breathing, long exhales and sitting still. No mats, no mantra. The most useful thing on this timetable and the least popular.
Slow Flow
Movement at about a third of the speed you would expect, held long enough to be uncomfortable and short enough to be sustainable.
Restorative & Yin
Fully propped, five poses in seventy-five minutes. Ines will bring you more bolsters than you think you need and she will be right.
Guided Bathing Circuit
Tomo walks a group of eight through the full four-water sequence, with the timings called and the breathing coached.
Cold Exposure Basics
For people who want to use the plunge and cannot yet. Entirely optional at every stage, and nobody is talked into anything.
Sound Bath
Bowls and gongs in the stone hall, lying down, lights out. Kaori has run this weekly since 2013.
Tea & Silence
Forty-five minutes of tea, prepared properly, drunk without conversation. Harder than it sounds and better than it sounds.
Walking Meditation
Slowly, around the garden, in a loop, whatever the weather. Cancelled only for ice.
Practicalities
Dropping in.
No. Arrive a few minutes early and take a place. Rooms hold between twelve and twenty and we have turned somebody away perhaps four times in sixteen years.
The cotton wear provided, or your own loose clothing. Mats, bolsters, blankets and props are all in the rooms.
Start with Morning Breath or Restorative & Yin. Neither requires any flexibility, experience or previous interest in the subject.
Rarely, and never without a fortnight's notice at the desk. Seasonal additions appear in midsummer and around New Year, when the house stays open.
Classes are included with the day pass rather than sold separately, so the answer is yes, at ¥6,800 — and you may as well use the water while you are here.
Everything here is included.
One pass covers the bathing hall, every class on this page, the rest rooms and the tea.
